Biography 1 (Assistant Professor Dr.Barkan Ugurlu)
Barkan Ugurlu received his B.E. (with high honors) in Electrical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, and his M.E. degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2006. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Humanoid Robotics field, from Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan, in 2010, with the Monbukagakusho scholarship granted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Technology of Japan. From May 2010 to March 2013, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher, at the Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa, Italy, and Toyota Technological Institute, Nagoya, Japan. From April 2013 to January 2015, he was a Research Scientist at the Computational Neuroscience Laboratories, Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR), Kyoto, Japan. As of February 2015, he is working at the Department of Mechanical Engineering as an Assistant Professor in Ozegin University. His research interests include biological sensorimotor control and motor recovery, active orthoses and exoskeletons, robot-aided rehabilitation, humanoid/quadruped locomotion control, and multibody dynamics, force, and compliance control.
Biography 2 (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onder Tutsoy )
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onder Tutsoy from Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University Saricam Campus Adana, Turkey.
Onder Tutsoy received his Ph.D. degree, The University of Manchester, The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Manchester, England, 2009-2013. • Thesis Title: On the Reinforcement Learning Analysis and Learning the Control of Humanoid Robot Leg • Supervised by: Dr. Martin Brown and Prof. Hong Wang Master of Science, (MSc), The University of Manchester, Advanced Systems and Control Engineering, Manchester, England, 2008-2009 • Dissertation Title: Robust Experimental Design and Control of Biological Systems • Supervised by: Dr. Martin Brown Academic Preparation, The University of Nottingham, Nottingham, England 2007-2008 • Dissertation Title: Nuclear Power Plants; An Overview • Supervised by: A number of lecturers from the academic preparation department. Biography 3 (Prof. Jacky Baltes )
Jacky Baltes received his Ph.D. degree in 1996 from the University of Calgary in Artificial Intelligence. From 1996 to 2002, he worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand. From 2002 to 2016, he has been a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He has worked as an Outstanding Professor and head of Educational Robotics Center at the National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan, since 2016. He has also been a vice president of the FIRA robotic soccer association, chair of the HuroCup competition, and a member of the RoboCup executive committee. His research interests are intelligent robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision.
Biography 4 (Prof. Jessy W. Grizzle)
Jessy W. Grizzle is the Director of the Michigan Robotics Institute. He received the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1983. He is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan, where he holds the titles of the Elmer Gilbert Distinguished University Professor and the Jerry and Carol Levin Professor of Engineering. He jointly holds sixteen patents dealing with emissions reduction in passenger vehicles through improved control system design. Professor Grizzle is a Fellow of the IEEE and IFAC. He received the Paper of the Year Award from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society in 1993, the George S. Axelby Award in 2002, the Control Systems Technology Award in 2003, the Bode Prize in 2012 and the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award in 2014. His work on bipedal locomotion has been the object of numerous plenary lectures and has been featured on CNN, ESPN, Discovery Channel, The Economist, Wired Magazine, Discover Magazine, Scientific American and Popular Mechanics.
